STORY

2023

Although conceptualised much earlier, Also Known As was officially launched in November 2023 at the Capsule Collective pop-up shop.

Immediately picked up by Practice Studio & Chev Lane, by the end of 2023 we were stocked online & in-store in Brisbane.

Launched with four products: The Staple Tank, The Piece Harness, The Cuff Bag & The Adjustable Apron.

By the end of the year, we had been featured as a part of Brisbane Fashion Festival, and photographed by the Courier Mail.

2024

Whilst completing my Bachelor's Graduate Collection, A.K.A. had a massive year.

Musicians such as Bella Amor & Meg Holland wore our pieces for performances.

Rosario Journal interviewed and featured us in their Issue 03.

We were a part of the Practice Studio independent designer runway in October.

A.K.A featured in the ‘Visiting’ Exhibition by Mercury & Chev Lane.

We received two awards for ‘Metropolis’, The Cameron Votan business mentorship award and the Woolmark Wool Bursary.

2025

Whilst working on our newest collection - ready-to-wear inspired by the characters of 'Metropolis', we've re-vamped our branding with the help of David Climo.

In the midst of this, we were featured on @upnextdesigner , created a collaboration with George Oliver Park of Mercury, created custom pieces for Platonic Sex, Maz De Vita of Waax wore AKA on stage, and we flew to Melbourne for our first inter-state stockist meeting.

Designer/Founder: Ayla K Anderson

Obvious from the name, but AKA comes directly from my initials. I knew creating clothing and art was something I wanted to do for a long time, and growing up on the Gold Coast felt quite distant from where I wanted to go. Having a brief career in Dermal Science before moving to London in 2020 taught me a lot, but didn't allow me to create. Working within Harrods and experiencing London during Covid and numerous lockdowns was a unique experience, and I came back to Australia more ready than ever to develop myself as a designer. Working as a freelance stylist and creative director during my studies allowed me to meet many amazing creatives in the Brisbane scene, and develop my understanding of garments, bodies, and styling various people.

Also Known As is born out of a desire to think outside the box, tell stories and investigate craftsmanship within art. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
